Questão Responda
"She was a Phantom of Delight" Juxtaposition: Symbolises how his first (Phantom) and final (Delight) thoughts of her differ Juxtaposition: Phantoms aren't usually associated with positive feelings: His wife is unique
"A lovely Apparition" Too perfect to be real Not physical - can disappear at any moment Haunts his sight and mind (she is constantly on his mind)
"a moment's ornament" Beauty (ornament's only purpose is to decorate) Shallowness and possessiveness. She is an object belonging to him
"From May-time to the cheerful Dawn" Pathetic fallacy, imagery, beauty Personification of Spring - She is bright and brings new life Nature created her with the most beautiful things
"A Creature not too bright or good" Praise for being human-like and down-to-Earth He is examining her character, not just her beauty
"And now I see with eye serene" Volta Their relationship has matured
"The very pulse of the machine" Machine - She was made for a purpose, and is perfect (machines do not make mistakes) 'Pulse' reminds us that she is human
"yet a Spirit still, and bright with something of angelic light" Despite her having the qualities of a perfect human, she is also beautiful Connotes to purity and perfection Final 2 lines rhyme with first 2, making it sound complete and perfect, like the woman
Rhyme scheme Constant rhyme AA, BB, CC..., we expect the woman to be predictable, however, irregular rhythm shows us that it is not as predicable as we might have thought - Like the woman
