Questão Responda
How do hormones affect cells? Affect membrain transport, Altering DNA therefore protein synthesis, Activating second messengers, Modulating enzyme activity.
Identify four factors which influence the plasma hormone concentration. Rate of release, rate of catabolism or excretion, quality of transport proteins, changes in plasma volume.
Give some factors which influence the effect of hormones on tissue. Concentration of hormone, number of receptors in the cell, affinity of the hormone to the receptor.
How might up regulation and down regulation affect hormone effect size. Down regulation is where we have less receptors on the surface of the cell, normally in response to high concentration of hormone, but this would reduce the effect of the hormone on the tissue. The opposite is true for up regulation.
What is the effect of Growth hormone? Increases protein synthesis, decreases plasma glucose breakdown and increases adipose mobilization.
Where is adrenaline and noradrenaline released? Adrenal medulla
What is release from the posterior pituitary gland? ADH
How does the ADH concentration change during exercise. Draw a graph to show these changes.
what does Neurocrine mean? The neurons that releases hormones near another cell.
What does paracrine mean? Secretions have their effect on adjacent cells or glands. For example nitric oxide
What is meant by the term autocrine? refers to hormones which are released as a result of positive feedback from cells.
