Questão Responda
What is the Squeaky pop test? It is a test to check for hydrogen, if the gas pops when you add fire
What is the lime water test? It is the test for carbon dioxide, you put the gas in lime water, if the water turns murky its positive.
What does the oxygen test do? If you have oxygen it should relight a glowing splint of wood.
name the 4 invisible gases Hydrogen, nitroegen, carbon dioxide and oxygen
what happens when all gas tests are negative? Its nitrogen
What is a chemical change? It is when a new substance or product has been formed. Can't be reversed. e.g Baking a cake.
What is a physical change? It is when nothing has chemically, but it has changed its appearance. Can be reversed e.g boiling water
(c2h6) + (o2) --> (h2o)+(co2) Make it balanced^ 2(c2h6) + 7(o2) --> 6(h2o)+4(co2)
Rules for balancing chemical equations? 1. Can't change the properties of the molecules inside the brackets. 2. Every element must have an equal number on both sides.
What is combustion? Mixing anything with Oxygen, to make carbon dioxide and water.
What do many metals form when reacting with acids? salt and hydrogen
What happens when metals react with acids? They dissolve.
In what group are the Alkali metals? The 1st group on the periodic table.
How are metals grouped on the periodic table? Elements with similar properties are grouped.
Name some proporties 1. Opaque 2. Lustrous (shiny and reflect light) 3. Good conductors of electricity. 4. Good conductors of heat. 5. Malleable (can be hammered into sheets) 6. Ductile (Can be drawn into wire) 7. Hardness 8. Density 9. Tensile strength (To be able to withstand a stretching force) 10. Melting point (MP) 11. Chemical reactivity.
What's a symbol equation? (should be always be balanced) co2+h2o=?
what's a word equation? (can't be balanced) Methane+oxygen=?
What are the three types of metals? 1. Alkali metals 2. Alkaline earth metals 3. Transition metals
What are Alkali metals? 1. They are less dense than normal metals. 2. They are silvery colored and they are soft. 3. They are very reactive. 4. They aren't found pure in nature. 5. The more reacitve ones are lower on the periododic table.
What are Alkaline earth metals? 1. Group 2 of the periodic table 2. Found naturally in earth’s crust (as compounds) 3. Quite reactive but not as much as Alkali metals 4. Higher melting point than Alkali metals 5. Silvery
What are Transition metals? 1. Groups 3-12 of the periodic table 2. Harder and denser than groups 1 and 2 3. Higher melting points
What are alloys? Metals mixed with other elements e.g Bronze, Brass and Steel.
What are noble gases? Gas's that don't react chemically.
Nonmetals, Metalloids
What is corrosion? happens when metals react with oxygen (oxidization), happens faster when its near salt water.
What is tarnish? When metals create a thin layer when reacting with things in the air (Oxygen, Hydrogen Sulfide, or sulfur dioxide)
What metals and what happens when metals react with water? Group 1 metals can react with room temperature water. During a water-metal reaction, the metal makes a compound called hydroxide.
What is electroplating? when we make electricity from metals with a chemical reaction. It can also be done the other way round, and it can be reversed. during the process, the compound becomes pure metal.
