Questão Responda
What are the properties of new muscle fibers? Embryonic myosin, immature ATPase, Metabolically undifferentiated, the embryonic myosin is slowly replaced by fast of slow myosin.
What are undifferentiated fibers called? type IIc
At what stage of development would you expect type I fibers begin to develop? As posture and locomotion develops
What percentage of muscle fiber variance is explained by genetics? 50%
Describe the effect of endurance training on muscle fiber composition. What other training effects might we expect to see? No change in type I fiber % nor hypertrophy of type I fibers. Just a change of type IIx to type IIa thus increasing type IIa % and decreasing type IIx %. We would also expect to see increased oxidative capacity, increased capillarization and increased mitochondria.
Describe the effect of weight training on muscle fiber type. No change type I %, but type I fibers underwent hypertrophy seeing decreased mitochondria and increased contractile proteins.
What is the effect of speed and power training on fiber type? increased size of type I and IIa fibers. Also conversion of type IIa to type IIx and the glycolytic enzymes increased.
Give evidence to explain the role of the motor nerve in training induced changes Cross innervation of muscle motor units so they activate different muscle types compared to before. Adaptions occur as a result of the changed firing pattern of the motor neurons and not due to chemical stimuli. Slow tonic stimulation results in type I fiber conversion, while high burst and infrequent activity results in type II fiber conversion.
What is the influence of altitude on muscle fibers? Altitude causes hypoxia, there is the same number of fibers, reduced fiber size, and reduced oxidative capacity of the muscle.
Give some nutritional external influences apart from training to muscle fiber type. Smoking, alcohol, dietary supplements, creatine.
