It was easier to understand, because it was not a poem
It was published in serials, in newspapers, and was a form of
entertaining for the bourgeoisie
It can be divided in 3 types:
Indianist romance
This type of prose wanted to create
nationalism, with the Indian as a hero. A
very importante book written by José de
Alencar was Iracema.
Urban romance
Represent the values of the
bourgeoisie. Already at the
end of Romanticism, this
prose takes on a critical tone,
but the idealization is still
presente. Lucíola is an
important book for this
time.
Regional romance
This type of prose also wanted
to create nationalism, seeking
to look at all the corners of
Brazil (show Brazil to the
brazilians). José de Alencar
idealizes the hero as brave
and simple. A famous book is
A Escrava Isaura, by Bernardo
Guimarães.
