SICK SINUS SYNDROME
1. SA node is affected
  1. found in 1 in 600 CVD patients
2. cause
  1. idiopathic age-related fibrosis and cell atrophy or ischemia leading to changes in the electrophysiology of the SAN, known as electrical remodeling
    1. manifested as bradycardia or asystolic pause
3. pathophysiology
  1. The Na+ channels normally present at the periphery of the SA node has been shown to decrease which could potentially lead to SAN exit block
4. diagnosis
  1. Holter monitor
  2. exercise tests
  3. intracardiac electrophysiologic tests
5. asymptomatic but may show
  1. fatigue
  2. dizziness
  3. weakness
  4. short breath

  1. having it with only bradycardia is a good prognosis
