Tissues
  1. Epithelia
    1. Simple
      1. squamous
        1. function

          Anotações:

          • Cells form into sheets and form in the protective area to allow substances through, e.g. capilliary walls allow O2, Co2 and glucose.
          1. structure

            Anotações:

            • The structure of the cells is small, thin and delicate
          2. cuboidal
            1. function

              Anotações:

              • Allows substances to pass through by diffusion. Can withstand more trauma than simple squamous epithelium. Also specialise in secreting subtances such as medcines
              1. structure

                Anotações:

                • This tissue consists of single layers of cuboidal cells on the bottom of the membrane
              2. columar
                1. function

                  Anotações:

                  • Columnar epithelia have goblet cells in between them which allows them to produce mucous. The mucous traps dust and germs
                  1. structure

                    Anotações:

                    • Microvilli, also known as the hairs which are on the top of the columnar epithelial cells.
                  2. ciliated columar
                    1. function

                      Anotações:

                      • A thin tissue that has hair-like structures on it. The hairs move back and forth to help move particules out of our body
                      1. structure

                        Anotações:

                        • We find ciliated columnar tissue in our respiratory tract
                    2. Compund
                      1. Keratinised
                        1. function

                          Anotações:

                          • They are the layers under the cuboidal and divide to replace the surface cells which then become dust.
                          1. structure

                            Anotações:

                            • Keratinised are the dead cells which lay on the top as they are dead, they are filled with protein called keratin
                          2. Non-Keratinised
                            1. function

                              • This tissue is found in the lining moist cavities or tubes within the body such as the mouth or cornea
                              1. structure

                                Anotações:

                                • The cells on the surface and sloughed of through friction and are replaced by new cells.
