Resumo de Recurso

Chemical Bonding
  1. Element
    1. Consists of 1 type of atom only
    2. Mixture
      1. Consists of different types of atoms that are not chemically bonded
      2. Compound
        1. Particles are held together by strong forces called chemical bonds. A chemical reaction will have taken place
        2. Molecules
          1. Combinations of atoms
          2. Ionic Bonding
            1. This happens in compounds consisting of a metal and non-metal. Electrons are transferred from the metal atom. Oppositely charged ions are formed which are bonded together by electrostatic attration. The metal ion is positive and the non metal ion is negative
            2. Covalent Bonding
              1. Occurs in compound of 2 non metals. Electorns are SHARED between the atoms
              2. Metallic Bonding
                1. This occurs in metals. Electrons are shared between the atoms
