People are born into a society from which they gain their identity, by
comparing and contrasting themselves with others. Therefore our society is
a key component of our identity (contrasting with the liberal "individual").
The individual is only one small component of a whole; by themselves
their ability to reason and make appropriate choices is compromised.
Governance is complex and a difficult skill to master; we are better off relying on the centuries of
experience and constructions that precede us by pursuing gradual reform, rather than drastic change.
