Exo and Endothermic reactions
  1. Endothermic reactions
    1. they intake energy from their surroundings
      1. In an endothermic reaction the temperature of the substance decreases
        1. They can be useful in technology such as cold packs or ice packs used when you receive an injury
        2. e.g. electrolysis
          1. e.g. the reaction between ethanoic acid and sodium carbonate
            1. the thermal decomposition of calcium carbonate
              1. Activation energy is needed in both exo and endothermic reactions. Activatio energy is the amount of energy/succesful collisions needed to start a reaction
                1. Catalysts help decrease activation energy in industry so more succesfull reactions can happen quicker
              2. Exothermic reactions
                1. they release energy to their surroundings
                  1. In an exothermic reaction the temperature of the substance increases
                    1. that is because the energy that is being transferred is heat
                    2. e.g. burning
                      1. e.g. neutralisation reactions between acids and alkalis
                        1. e.g the reaction between water and calcium oxide
                          1. They can be useful in technology such as hand warmers and self heating cans
                            1. Activation energy is needed in both exo and endothermic reactions. Activatio energy is the amount of energy/succesfull collisions needed to start a reaction
