Classification Of Schicophrenia
Commonly diagnosed between ages of 15-35
Can affect thought processes, physical function and perception or reality
Some may encounter symptoms persistently or sporadically
Positive Symptoms: symptoms in addition to normal functioning
Hallucinations - no one else can perceive. Can be auditory or visual.
Also olfactory (nasty smells) or tactile (feeling of being touched.
Delusions - irrational beliefs that seem real but aren't true.
Paranoid Delusions - may involve being persecuted by others.
Delusions of Grandeur - exaggerated beliefs about ones abilities.
Negative Symptoms: symptoms that involve a reduction in normal functioning
Speech Poverty - reduction in amount or quality of what is spoken.
May involve reduced verbal fluency, language complexity or a delay in verbal responses.
Avolition - reduced motivation to take part in activities
