1. To gain media attention and put pressure on companies to desegregate public spaces (direct action)
2. As a peaceful protest, sat in the white area of Woolworths cafe

1960 CIVIL RIGHTS ACT

2. Made the Commission keep records of black voters, but it only increased black voters by 3%
Albany 1961-2
1. FAILURE
2. Desegregate the whole town, end police brutality, get as many black people in jail as possible and get fair employment
3. Protest marches and sit-ins
4. Falling out between the movements, too many aims, police were peaceful and King sent to jail
