Commercial Use of Plant Hormones
  1. Weedkillers
    1. Selective weedkillers attack some plants and not others.
      1. Contains a growth hormone causing plants to grow too quickly and to die.
    2. Rooting Powder
      1. used to produce lots of clones of a really good plant very quickly
        1. cut off part of a plant will not normally grow
          1. rooting powder makes this possible because it contains a plant growth hormone
            1. cut off plant starts producing roots and growing as a new plant
        2. Controlling the ripening of fruit
          1. Fruits are sprayed with hormones to either delay or speed up ripening so they are ready to sell.
          2. Dormancy
            1. plants going through certain conditions until starting to germinate, i.e. periods of cold or dryness
              1. hormone called gibberellin overcomes this dormancy
                1. plants can grow on times they wouldn't grow normally
