Marking & Joining
  1. Scriber
    1. Sharp tool to mark accurate lines
    2. Divider
      1. Mark out circles or arcs.
        1. One point digs in the material, whilst the other makes a line in the material.
        2. Odd-leg calipers
          1. Scribe line parallel to a staight edge.
            1. The notched leg slide along material edge while the scriber point makes a line.
            2. Surface gauge
              1. Mark accurate parallel lines.
              2. Dot punch
                1. Marks positions of drill holes and make small dotted dents on already marked out lines.
                  1. Has a conical point ground to 60 degrees
                  2. Centre punch
                    1. Has a conical tip ground to 90 degrees.
                      1. Marks the centre of holes for drilling.
                        1. The punch is put into the dot punch mark and enlarges it.
                        2. Welding
                          1. Heat melts the edges of the metals being joined and forms a pool of molten metal. Then leave to cool.
                          2. Soldering
                            1. Bonds an alloy to form a joint.
                              1. 'Parent metals' dont melt. The surface is cleaned with flux and heat is applied using a gas torch.
                                1. The solder is applied, which melts and 'runs' between the metals.
