5 techniques employed by Hitler and Stalin
  1. Scapegoating
    1. A person who is blamed for something that someone else has done unfairly
      1. Scapegoating was rejected by the liberalism because government did not worry about their citizens and instead blamed other people. Many citizens felt congested which resulted in protests. For example, Hitler blamed Germany’s economic, political and social problems on variety of scapegoats and wants to get more support of his party. Germany was in trouble and people tend to be more willing to accept extreme ideas and blaming others foe their problems. German government targeted Jewish population and other minor group of people. Moreover, this technique was not only used by Hitler, but Stalin as well. In example, when Stalin demanded counter-attack, which the Red Army could not make, he faced many losses. This resulted in the use of scapegoats, who were arrested and blamed for these efforts.
      2. Force and Terror
        1. The unlawful use of force and violence against people or property to intimidate a civilian population
          1. Force and violence was an extremely dangerous technique used by these dictators during the time. An example by Hitler was when the Nazi officials and many of their supporters went on a rampage, vandalising and burning the shops, homes, and synagogues of German Jews. Many Jews become beaten and 91 were killed and around 30 000 Jews were sent to concentration camps. The death of over million Jewish people in Nazi concentration camps was to follow in what has come to be known as the holocaust. This technique rejects liberalism because it causes citizens fear speech and their own opinions. Everyone obeyed the orders of their dictators of fear of death and being sent to the harsh camps.
          2. Propaganda
            1. Ideas and/or statements that are often misleading or false that are spread to help a government, leader or cause
              1. This picture shows Propaganda. As it is portraying that the Jewish people are doing evil as they are making rest of Germany suffer. This idea rejects liberalism because people are told false information by the government. This does not completely allow the individuals to be free and think the way they want to but rather the way the governments want them to think. Therefore, individuals don’t have complete freedom to think, act freely, and have opinions on other groups based on their own experiences.
              2. Secret Police
                1. Example: Hitler used Gestapo and Stalin used NKVD
                  1. Police force working in secret against the people who opposed the government
                    1. This picture represents secret police. The skull represents the "evil" side of the Gestapo police, who work for Hitler. If anyone were to talk agaisnt Hitler, or even Stalin, they would be sentanced to death, or harsh concentration camps where they would most likely die as well. This idea rejects liberalism because it prevents people from sharing their opinions about the government, or the way the run things. This violetes the liberal idea of freedom of speech, because most citizens were afraid to speak up about these dictators because of the cruel consequences.
                    2. Indoctrination
                      1. To teach an individual to accept the beliefs, ideas and opinions of one person, and reject another's
                        1. This is a picture of title of a book that demonstrates the Nazi indoctrination of children. As it shows that they are really happy and support the Nazi party. This shows how Hitler imposed his values and beliefs on children through books, painting and song books. This rejects liberalism as it does not allow individuals to think freely and have opinions based on their own values and beliefs. Hitler indoctrinated children and as these children grow up they will play a role in Hitler’s mission on expanding Germany’s territory.
