Unit 2.1

What is ICT ?
1. Information and Communication Technology
2. The use of technology for the input, processing, storage and transfer of data and the output of information.
What is a system?
1. Three basic stages
  1. Input
  2. Processing
  3. Output
Input-Processing-Output
1. Data is entered via an input device such as a keyboard
2. Calculations, Queries and other operations are performed
3. The results of the processing are sent to an output device such as a monitor.
What is a ICT system?
1. Are those where the output from the system goes directly to a human being or into another ICT system.
Components of ICT system
1. People
  1. No ICT system can work without people being involved.
  2. They will be used in analysis, design, implementation and programmers.
2. Data
  1. Data is raw facts and figures.
    1. Data can be input by different input devices: Keyboard, Bar-Code reader, Scanner, Digital camera.
3. Procedures
  1. For it to work effectively, procedures are important.
4. Software
  1. Software packages are the programs that make the computer a useful tool by carrying out the processing.
5. Hardware
  1. Storage space and processing power will be taken into account when choosing hardware.
6. Information
  1. Final output is the information produced.
  2. Information is data that has been processed into something meaningful.
