Kinetic theory & Forces between Particles
  1. States of matter depend on the forces between particles
    1. Solid, liquid and gas
      1. Solid; there is a strong force between particles, pulling them together. they have a definite shape. solids expand a little when heated, as the particles begin to vibrate
        1. Liquid: There is some attraction between them. they can move past each other but they tend to stick. They fill a container but have the same volume
          1. Gas: There is almost no force between the gas particles, they are free to move. they dont keep a definite shape of volume. particles move randomly. The hotter they get the faster they move
