  1. THREE KINGDOMS
    1. Made up of England (with Wales), Ireland and Scotland
      1. Each country had their own council and Government
      2. English Kingdom was the largest, so they held the largest seat in the Government
      3. ROYAL COURT
        1. Made up of the King's friends
          1. Also had important Office holders and foreign Ministers
          2. Within this was the Privy Court
            1. Privy Council made up of close friends and advisers
            2. CHURCH OF ENGLAND
              1. King was the Head of the Church
                1. King chose the Bishops and Archbishops
                  1. Archbishop of Canterbury was a member of the Privy Council
                  2. COMMON LAWS
                    1. Judges were appointed by the King
                      1. Laws enforced by Justices of the Peace
                        1. Assissted by the Parish Officials
                      2. INSTITUTION OF PARLIAMENT
                        1. Played limited role in Government
                          1. Meeting were called at the discretion of the King
                            1. These meetings happened rarely
                          2. WAR WITH SPAIN
                            1. Fought by James I
                              1. James preferred diplomatic means rather that bearing arms
                              2. England was very anti-catholic
                                1. Government granted tax rise wanted by Charles to fight the war
