Nutrient Notes
  1. Nutrients are substances found in food that you use to obtain energy, build or repair tissue and regulate body functions
    1. Your body needs nutrients for:
      1. Fueling your energy
        1. Helping you grow
          1. Maintaing bodily functions
            1. Repairing itself
            2. The six essential nutrients
              1. Water
                1. Water is the most basic nutrient and if you do not drink water, you cannot surivive for more than a few days.
                2. Carbohydrates
                  1. The two carbohydrates you need are simple and complex. You would need some of each
                    1. Complet Carbohydrates
                      1. An amazing source of energy for the body that is rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber
                      2. Simple Carbohydrates
                        1. They have a bad reputation because they are high in calories and low in nutritional value
                    2. Protein
                      1. The nutrient almost everyone has plenty of
                        1. Provides energy and helps to build, maintain, and repair body tissues
                        2. Fat
                          1. Without any healthy fat, your brain and nerves won’t work well.
                            1. Provides substances needed for growth and healthy skin, enhances the taste and texture of food, requireds to carry, and “fat-soluble” vitamins throughout the body
                            2. Vitamins
                              1. They don’t give any energy, but they do help break down and release energy from protein, carbohydrates and fat
                              2. Minerals
                                1. Helps perform a wide variety of essential functions in the body
                              3. Fiber is is indigestible but helps digestion
