    1. No system in place
      1. Hunter Gatherers would move away from their waste which prevented disease
        1. Farmers would have a constant source of food
        2. Ancient Egypt
          1. Little improvement

              1. Papyrus
                1. Used for recording
              2. Ancient Greece
                1. An Asclepia in every major town
                  1. (gymnasia, baths, etc)
                  2. Hippocrates suggested good diet & exercise
                  3. Ancient Rome
                    1. Cared about health of soldiers (for war purposes)
                      1. So good facilities provided
                      2. Conquering other countries
                        1. To keep citizens calm & stop panicking they provided excellent PH
                        2. Aqueducts invented
                          1. "Fresh water" in towns
                          2. Public baths, toilets and sewers
                            1. (7 SEWERS IN ROME)
                              1. Gov Officials monitored for cleanliness
                            2. Fall Of Roman Empire
                              1. Invaded
                                1. Empire broke up into different countries
                                  1. Engineering knowledge lost
                                2. No stability
                                  1. Countries cared more about war than PH
                                    1. No bath houses, etc
                                  2. Early Middle Ages
                                    1. Throw waste out of windows, through the streets
                                      1. Waste ran to rivers, which was a supply of drinking water
