result of the round table confrences
first time Indians played a key role in there own government
1. BUT the British still retains real control
India would be split into 11 Different provinces
1. Each Province would have an assembily which could form law on any issues; apart from defence and foreign affairs
  1. These assemblies would be MOSTLY Indian
2. these Provinces would be appointed a governer whom had the power to act during emergincy. such as protecting minority of maintaining law and order
A central government would be in Delhi
1. It would be made of two chambers...
  1. .....of elected of appointed members
  2. ...of Indian nationals and Indian princes
Viceroy was still appointed by westminster
1. he controled foreign affairs and defence
2. But had to listen to The Indian executive committe; which was made up of mainly indians
reactions
1. Congress rejected the act....
  1. it wanted a complete break from Britain not just the "halfway house" offer
  2. they belived Britain had no intention of giving India Inderpendance.
  3. It did not give special powers to minoritys
