High-risk pregnancy

Your pregnancy is called high-risk if you or your baby has an increased chance of a health problem. Many things can put you at high risk.
Pregnancy may be at risk if
1. health problem
  1. Diabetes.
  2. Cancer.
  3. High blood pressure.
  4. Kidney disease.
  5. Epilepsy.
2. Substance abuse
3. younger than 17 or older than 35.
4. multiple pregnancy
5. have had three or more miscarriages
6. baby has been found to have a genetic condition
  1. Down syndrome
  2. heart problem
  3. lung problem
  4. kidney problem
7. problem in a past pregnancy
  1. Preterm labor.
  2. Preeclampsia or seizures
8. Infection
  1. HIV
  2. hepatitis C
  3. cytomegalovirus
  4. chickenpox
  5. rubella
  6. toxoplasmosis
  7. syphilis.
9. taking certain medicines
  1. lithium
  2. phenytoin
  3. valproic acid
  4. carbamazepine
10. Other health problems
  1. heart valve problems
  2. sickle cell disease
  3. asthma
  4. lupus
  5. rheumatoid arthritis
Pregnant adolescent
1. Complications
  1. PIH
  2. Iron deficiency anemia
  3. Preterm labor
2. Concerns of labor, birth and postpartum
  1. CPD
  2. Post-partal hemorrhage
  3. Unexpected pregnancy
  4. Lack of knowledge
Pregnant over the age of 40

    1. Failure to progress
    2. Difficulty accepting event
    3. Post-partal hemorrhage
    4. Chromosomal problems
Vulnerable groups are pregnant women with:
1. Physiologic problems
2. Malnutrition
3. Frequent pregnancies
4. Prescence of physical deformity
5. Mothers who are too young or too old
6. Poverty/ social standing
7. Victims of abuse
8. Single mothers
