          1. Americans hated they were paying for protection in peacetime that could be turned on them

            1. Political voice spread ideas and plans
              1. Influential newspapers pushed neutrals onto a side
                1. America was the land of plenty, this meant that it could trade easily without the British
              2. Why did Britain lose?
                1. Geography
                  1. It was always going to be impossible to fight 3,000 miles away
                  2. French and European alliances vs Britain
                    1. Britain did not try to ally with any country but when France joined the war it became impossible for Britain to win
                    2. American strength
                      1. Committed to their cause
                        1. Washington's talent
                          1. Success in propaganda hearts and minds won over
                          2. British weakness
                            1. Insuficient land troops to cover vast expanse of ground
                              1. Poor communications, differing commands
