"Two households, both alike in dignity, in
fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
from ancient grudge break to new
mutiny, where civil blood makes civil
hands unclean."
Romeo vs Tybalt
Tybalt thought that Romeo came to
the Capulet ball to "scorn at [their]
solemnity." Tybalt decided to
approach Romeo and make a scene
but Lord Capulet forbid him.
However, Tybalt remained true to
his word when he challenged
Romeo.
Tybalt : "Boy, this shall
not excuse the injuries
that thou hast done me;
therefore turn and draw."
Romeo: "I do I never
injur'd thee but love thee
beter than thou canst
devise"
Juliet vs Lord Capulet
He wants her to marry the
County Paris for reasons of
family prosperity and future
allegiance rather than for
love.
“Hang thee, young baggage! disobedient
wretch! I tell thee what: get thee to church
o' Thursday, Or never after look me in the
face.”
Romeo vs his inner
morals
Romeo is having trouble
deciding whether to be loyal
to Mercutio, his best friend,
or Juliet, the love of his life,
when Tybalt challenges him.
"My very friend, hath
got his mortal hurt....
O sweet Juliet! Thy
beauty hath made me
effeminate."
