Women's Movement.
  1. Cult Of Domesticity
    1. The Cult of Domesticity was the idea of how the home life was supposed to be set up in order to be "proper." It mainly focused on what women's ideals and duties should be. This was popular in the 19th century.
      1. The ideals and duties of women were supposed to revolve around piety, purity, domesticity, and submissiveness.
        1. Piety meant that women were to be faithful to their god. Purity meant they were to not have child out of wedlock and not give in to temptation of man. Submissiveness mainly regarding their acts towards their men and their choice of clothing. Domesticity meant to keep the women at home doing 'womenly' duties.
        2. This idea was everywhere, even books, such as "Godey's Lady's Book."
      2. Susan B. Anthony/Elizabeth Stanton
        1. Created and hosted the Seneca Falls convention. July 19th & 20th, 1848.
          1. The Seneca Falls Convention was a convention held in Seneca Falls, NY. It was to construct the "Declaration of Sentiments." Which was a women's right's mock of Declaration of Independence.
            1. From this, Susan B. Anthony stemmed off her own women's movement meetings.
              1. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was the leader of the convention.
              2. Susan B. Anthony intimidated her way into voting and was then arrested.
                1. She had an unfair trail because women lacked their rights in the courts.

                  2. Alice Paul
                    1. Alice Paul was the main advocate for the 19th Amendment. She was the leader for the 19th Amendment campaign.
                      1. The 19th amendment was added to the Constitution in 1920.
                      2. Alice Paul created the National Woman's Party with Lucy Burns.
                        1. This was the first association to have anyone picket outside of the White House. They were "Silent Sentinels" in 1917.
