    1. L = long term bitterness

      Anotações:

      • The German people were still angry about WW1 and the TOV. Hitler's programme, appealed to their bitterness.
      1. I = Ineffective constitution

        Anotações:

        • The Weimar republic was ineffective because decisions were never made, there were too many parties in the Reichstag! Proportional representation meant anyone could join the parlement and there were often colalitions which made the government weak.
        1. M = Money

          Anotações:

          • Hitler had lots of support from wealthy business men, he was offered enough money to run his campaign. 
          1. P = Propaganda

            Anotações:

            • Nazi propaganda told people that the Jews were to blame for ALL German problems and Hitler was Germany's final hope. 
            1. P = Promises

              Anotações:

              • Hitler also promised things like reducing unemployment and adding more living space in Germany. He also said he would make Germany strong again.
              1. A = Attacks on other parties

                Anotações:

                • Anyone who opposed Hitler was often killed by the stormtroopers, so Hitler did not have many political opponents as most were scared of being killed.
                1. E = Economic depression

                  Anotações:

                  • Germany had VERY LITTLE money after the wall street crash (1929), and Hitler had promised to make Germany rich again.
                  1. P = Personal qualities

                    Anotações:

                    • Hitler was a very good public speaker. He was very organised and a good politician, he also keep going when other politicians might have given up. 
                    1. R = Recruited by Hindenburg

                      Anotações:

                      • Hitler was asked to be vice Chancellor by Hindenburg, below Von Papen. Hitler refused so Hindenburg made him Chancellor with Von Papen as vice chancellor. Hindenburg felt they could keep Hitler under their control in this position.
                    2. Munich Putsch

                      Anotações:

                      • Hitler did the Putsch in 1923 because the Nazi party was the strongest it had ever been. The stormtroopers were also very strong and were ready for violence. He hoped to copy Mussolini, who he supported.
                      1. Hitler, General Ludendorff and 3,000 Nazis stormed a beer hall in Munich

                        Anotações:

                        • General Ludendorff was a figurehead of Germany. He was a WW1 war hero and the German people loved and trusted him. This was a failure for the Weimar republic because people may begin to support the Nazis because Ludendorff supported them.
                        1. They took Kahr, the leader of Bavaria in to custody
                          1. Kahr escaped and phoned the police, to warn them about Hitler's plans.
                            1. The police met the Nazis to stop them and there was a gunfight. Hitler escaped and was arrested 2 days later.
                              1. The Nazi party was banned and Hitler couldn't speak in public until 1927. Hitler was sent to prison for treason for 5 years.

                                Anotações:

                                • He was let off easy because the judge was pro-Nazi. The Nazi party got a lot of publicity at the trial and in prison Hitler wrote 'Mein Kampf'.Hitler only served 9 months of his 5 year sentence.
                      2. Article 48
                        1. Article 48, was a clause the the president could use in Emergencies

                          Anotações:

                          • It meant that the President could make emergency laws and was in power. It was reserved for emergencies. 
                          1. Hitler put this clause in to action after the Reichstag burnt down.
                            1. He banned all other political parties so Germany became a one party state.
                          2. proportional representation

                            Anotações:

                            • One seat to a certain number of votes so there were loads of parties and no decisions were being made. 
                            1. Hidenburg and von papen
                              1. Hidenburg was the President of Germany at the time

                                Anotações:

                                • Hindenburg was very right wing. 
                                1. Von Papen was chancellor at the time.
