Resumo de Recurso
Methods of Stress Management
Two major categories
Physiological approaches: Drugs, biofeedback
Psychological approaches: Cognitive & behavioural training
Benzodiazepines (BZs)
The appear to act by reducing central (brain) arousal
BZs enhance GABA which tells the neurones that its contacts to slow down or stop firing
As a result of this extra influence, the brain's output of excitatory neurotransmitters is reduced and the person feels calmer
Beta-blockers
They directly reduce activity in pathways of the sympathetic nervous system around the body
Beta-blockers can be very effective against symptoms such as raised heart rate and blood pressure
They work by reducing the activity of adrenaline & noradrenaline
