1. microscopic single celled organisms
2. Some have features like an animal cell
  1. Amoeba
    1. which lives in pond water
3. Others have chloroplasts and are more like plants

4. A pathogenic example, causing malaria

Viruses
1. small particles, smaller than bacteria
2. They are parasitic and can reproduce only inside living cells
3. They infect every type of living organism
4. They have a wide variety of shapes and sizes
5. They have no cellular structure but have a protein coat and contain one type of nucleic acid, either DNA or RNA
6. EXAMPLES
  1. the tobacco mosaic virus that causes discolouring of the leaves of tobacco plants by preventing the formation of chloroplasts
  2. the influenza virus that causes 'flu'
  3. the HIV virus that causes AIDS
