        1. Neutral compounds = 0
          1. Ion = charge on ion
            1. The most electronegative element in compound is negative.
              1. Oxygen = -2
                1. Hydrogen = +1
                  1. Fluorine = -1
                    1. Chlorine = -1
                2. Group 1 metals = +1
                  1. Group 2 metals = +2
                3. Oxidation is loss of electrons.
                  1. Oxidation is gain of oxygen
                  2. Reduction is gain of electrons.
                    1. Reduction is loss of oxygen
