Excretion: The removal of
waste products of
metabolism from the
body
The nephron is the structural
and functional part of the
kidney
Urea is formed from
excess protein in the
liver
Anti diuretic hormone(ADH) is
released for the pituitary gland if it
detects low water content in the
blood. Acts on the distal convoluted
tubule and collecting duct
Filtration occurs in the
glomerulus and produces
glomerular filtrate
Reabsorption occurs in the
proximal convoluted tubule
Glucose, amino acids and salts are
absorbed from the glomerular filtrate into
the efferent arteriole by active transport
Reabsorption continues in the loop of
henle, distal convoluted tubule and
collecting duct.
Secretion of H+ ions if blood is too acidic can
also take place here
What ever
remains in the
collecting duct
(urine) passes
through the pelvis
in the kidney and
goes into the
bladder via the
ureter
