His role is to contrast with Romeo (passionate, impulsive)
Paris is rational and less impulsive as arranged marriage is more formal
Portrayed as the perfect husband for Juliet by Nurse and Lady Capulet

His role is to move the plot forward

When he was killed, Paris was only trying to bring justice to Romeo
