1.LONG TERM BITTERNESS
People were angry about 1st world war
Bitter about Treaty of Versailles
Due Germans bitter feelings Hitlers viscious & expansionism appealed
Gained support
2. INEFFECTIVE CONSTITUTION
Weakness in the constitution crippled the government
Alot of people even wanted to go back to ditatorship
nobody was prepared to stop or fight Hitler
3. MONEY
Hitler had financial support from wealthy businessmen
Had money for his propaganda and election campaigns
4.PROPAGANDA
Persuaded the German masses to believe Jews were to blame
Persuaded Germans Hitler was their last hope
5. PROGRAMME
Hitler promised everybody something so they supported him
6. ATTACKS ON OTHER PARTIES
Stormtroopers attacked Jews & people who opposed Hitler
Many opponents kept quiet because they were scared of being murdered
7.PERSONAL QUALITIES
Hitler was a brilliant speaker
His eyes had a peculiar power over people
Hitler was a good organiser & politician
He was driven but unstable
He believed he had been called by God to become dictator of Germany & rule the world
He self belief persuaded people to believe in him
8. ECONOMIC DEPRESSION
wall Street crash in 1929 US called in its loans to Germany
German economy crashed
high unemployment
people starving
Germans wanted someone to blame
Hitler offered both & Nazis success grew
9.RECRUITED BY HINDENBURG
In 1932 elections Nazis failed again to get majority
Franz VON PAPEN was chancellor but need support
Hidenburg & Von Papen needed support
Offered Hitler VICE Chancellor if he agreed to support them
Hitler refused Vice Chancellor & demanded he be made Chancellor
Hindenburg gambled & agreed as he thought he could control Hitler!!
Hitler did not have to take power he was given it!!
