Multiplying and Dividing Positive and Negative Numbers
- When multiplying or dividing two integers
you need to check the signs. Firstly
multiply and divide the numbers as normal.
Use these rules to find the sign for the
answer:
- Two like signs (both + or -) give a positive result.
Two unlike signs (one + and the other -) give a
negative result.
- Two like signs (both + or -) give a positive result.
Two unlike signs (one + and the other -) give a
negative result.
- Examples:
- -5 x 3 = -15
- -10 x -2 =20
- -12 divided by -2=6
- 15 divided by -3 = -5
- -5 x 3 = -15
