The conferences in WW2 between the USA,USSR and GB
  1. The Tehran conference 1943
    1. people present
      1. FDR, USA
        1. Churchill, GB
          1. Stalin, USSR
          2. the focus was on the war and how to win it
            1. they agreed that the USA and GB would launch a second from against the Germans to take pressure of the Soviets
            2. they also focused on what will happen in Europe after the war
              1. East Europe would be in Stalins influence and they would take land from Poland (and Poland taking from Germany)
              2. FDR often sided with Stalin instead of Churchill in hope of securing their help in the USA's war against Japan

                  1. it showed the Grand alliance to be working and that they could co-operate
                    1. it also showed that agreeing on what will happen to Europe to be difficult especially with how much influence Stalin will have
                  2. The Yalta Conference February 1945
                    1. the leaders got on quite well and the mood was positive
                      1. it was the same leaders from 1943
                        1. they were close to defeating Germany
                          1. it was agreed ht Germany and Berlin would be divided into 4 zones of occupation (GB, USA, USSR, France)
                            1. it was agreed that Nazi leaders would be found an put on trial
                              1. the UN ( United Nations) was set up in place of The League of Nations and would meet for the first time in April 1945

                                  1. it showed the alliance could still work together
                                    1. it left difficult decisions to b made at a later date
                                      1. Stalin promised free elections but would he do this?
                                        1. would the keep Germany weak or let it recover
                                          1. Stalin wanted it weak but FDR and Churchill didn't want to repeat the mistakes of Versailles
                                    2. The Potsdam Conference July/August 1945

                                          1. FDR died and was replaced with Truman
                                            1. Churchill lost the election and was replaced with Attlee
                                              1. Stalin was now working with people he didn't know and was convinced that Truman was more hostile to communism
                                              2. there were increasing tensions over the new government of Poland where elections were still not held
                                                1. stalin was allowed to take resources from the Soviet zone for war compensation but the USA and GB didn't want to cripple their zones
                                                  1. they agreed to give industrial equipment to Stalin and the Soviets were less developed
                                                  2. it was influenced by the news that the USA had tested the atomic bomb, Truman hoed it would give him the edge but it made Stalin more suspicious especially as they did not say it would be used on japan

                                                      1. they were still allies and were still trying to work together, they agreed the decisions made at Yalta and the banning of the Nazi party
                                                        1. the dissagrements were more important than the agreement and the wartime co-operation seemed to be over
                                                          1. it seemed that the arms race was starting due to the use of the atomic bomb and Stalin was developing his own
