Helping the sick and poor

some joined friendly societies that helped in hard times.

unemployment benefit was introduced, shipbuilding engineering and building

national insurance stamp, all contributed to benefit

after being fired they could claim a benefit for 15 weeks

15 week input was small, government wanted to help not encourage not getting a job.

sick pay was provided, all workers who made ->£3, it cost 4p a week.

employer=3p + 2p government + 4p working man

10 shillings a week for 26 weeks

30 shillings when child was born

the government tried to help people as well as poverty

Many men and women were skil

Many men and women were skilled but due the beliefs and work 

Many men and women were skilled but due the beliefs and work ethic, they were fired. They could work for a company for many years and would still be fired in the blink of an eye. money was very important and if someone didnt have enough of it they would be frowned upon. Many people worked more than one job, some even had to turn to illegal work such as prostitution.

The old age pension act was made to help people in there old age live with a decsent amount of money, but as people were only given 25p a week if they were alone or 37p if they were married. This was not enough money to live on this shows that they government cared but not enough to give the the money they needed to live.
