SECOND HAND-WRITTEN LAB REPORT
INTRODUCTIONMUST COVER THE FOLLOWING: WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE EXPERIMENT? WHICH SOLUTION ARE WE WORKING ON? WHY? WRITE DOWN FORMULA, WRITE DOWN RATE OF REACTION FORMULA, WRITE DOWN CONCENTRATION USED WRITE INFORMATION OVER THE SOLUTION TREATED (BEHAVIOR OF PHENOLPHTHALEIN SOLUTION) POINT OUT THE MATHEMATICAL TOOLS USED ( El from Beer's Law, K as our rate of reaction, and p as the order of the rate of reaction) WHICH TECHNOLOGIES WERE USED TO GET SOME OF THE DATA, AND WHY WERE THESE TECHNIQUES USED ALSO MAKE A REFERENCE OF THE USED CALIBRATION CURVE, IN ORDER TO MAKE IT CLEAR HOW IT WORKS AND GIVEN THE SLOPE ,HOW THAT SIGNIFIES THE El AND THEREFORE HOW WE CAN USED THIS TO CALCULATE THE CONCENTRATION OF THE DESIRE SOLUTION REMAINING IN THE SOLUTION WRITE THE ABSORBANCE AS A FUNCTION OF TIME (YOU CAN INCLUDE A TABLE FOR THIS SHOWING DIFFERENT ABSORBANCES AT THE DIFFERENT TIMES
INTRODUCTIONIn this laboratory we studied the rate of reaction of an aqueous solution, by using stock Phph^2- of 3x10^-4 as our indicator. We examined the reaction rate of the formula below, (write formula)to determine the effect of Phph^2- on the rate of reaction, by keeping a constant concentration of OH-. The following rate law was consider, (write down the order formula) which was obtained by monitoring the disappearance of the pink Phph^2- with time)In order to determine the disappearance we used Beer's Law and a spectrophotometer. Beer's Law (write Beer's Law) says that the absorption(A) of light of a solution is equal to the coefficient of the absorbing species (E) in this case Phph^2- , times the length of the light path through the sample(l) and the concentration of [Phph^2-]. The absorption could be obtained by using the Spectrophotometry method. Therefore by having specific [Phph^2-] concentrations and a absorption value, the El value was measure using a Calibration curved or Beer's Law plot. With the El value we calculated for [Phph^2-] concentration, by using: (show how the formula looks when isolating for the concentration) Once the concentration is obtained and by comparing data with the used of graphs representing each possible order and determining the slope, we were able to determine the pseudo rate constant (k') which shows how fast the reaction is, in terms of molecules collision with specific symmetry, energy and frequency, which are all temperature dependent; from the slope. The order of the reaction (p) with respect to each reactant, in this case Phph^2- indicates how the rate is related to the concentration of the reactants; was obtained from the most linear graph plotted.Details on what the specific concentrations are, and so on can be found on the attach procedure at the back of these report.
PROCEDUREYOU MUST MAKE A NOTE SAYING THAT THE PROCEDURE IS ATTACH AT THE BACK OF THE REPORT YOU MUST ATTACH THE PROCEDURE AT THE BACK OF THE REPORT WRITE TECHNICAL DETAILS, LIKE THE TYPE OF SPECTROPHOTOMETER USED
RESULT FIRST PART RESULTS READINGS (TABLE) REFER TO THE GRAPH OF BEER'S LAW TO EXPRESS THE VALUE OF CONCENTRATION OF REMAINING Phph^2- ON THE SOLUTION (REMEMBER THESE WERE THE READINGS MADE BY THE SPECTROPHOTOMETER AND THE PLOT OF INITIAL CONCENTRATION AND ABSORBANCE, WHICH SLOPE REFER TO THE EL, WHICH LATER ON CALCULATING WAS USED TO GET THE FINAL CONCENTRATION OF PHENOLPHTHALEIN IN THE SOLUTION, USING BEER'S LAW) CALCULATIONS WHAT IT MEANS SECOND PART READINGS(TABLE) DO GRAPHS OF Phph^2- (INCLUDE LEGEND, DIFFERENT COLORS) REMEMBER THAT THE SLOPE IS THE PSEUDO RATE K' ALSO THE GRAPH WITH THE MOST LINEAR SHAPE WILL BE THE ORDER OF THE REACTION P=0 P=1 P=2 4.CALCULATIONS 5.WHAT IT MEANS
DISCUSSION START BY POINTING OUT THE DIFFERENT METHODS USE POINT AT THE REASON FOR USING THIS METHODS e.g. "BY USING THIS METHOD WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE EL VALUE BY DOING THE GRAPH WITH THE ABSORBANCE...""K" "P" ONCE YOU EXPLAINED WHY THE METHIDS, WHAT WERE THEY USEFUL FOR, THEN WRITE WHAT EACH REPRESENTS, THIS MEANS WRITE "IF THE VALUE OF THIS VS THIS IN THE GRAPH, SHOW THAT THE SLOPE MEND THESE PARTICULAR VALUE" REFER TO THE GRAPHS POINT AT WHAT EACH OF THEM REPRESENT WHICH ONE, BEST SUITES THE LINEAR TRAJECTORY SO WHICH ONE IS THE ORDER OF THE REACTION
ProcedureThe experiment procedure can be find attach to the back of this report.Howsoever, we started by obtaining the absorbance of different concentrations with a specific Phph^2- on each of them. The different concentrations permitted a visible color distinction, favoring use of the spectrophotometry technique. There were two sets of attempts, each with different concentration of Phph^2- and same concentration of OH-. Using graphs for determining the effect of each member of the two sets, made it visually distinctive, and necessary to obtain needed information. More details can be found on the attachment.
