Setting: Denotation meaning: Setting refers to the time and place of the action. The time can be past, present or future. It can even be a season or time of day. The place can be a room, a country or any place you imagine. Settings affect the story in various ways such as: helping to set the mood, influencing the way characters to behave, affecting the dialogue, reflecting the society in which the characters live, and sometimes even playing a part in the story.
