Osmosis info...What is it?Osmosis is the movement of particles across a semi - permeable membrane from an area of high water potential to an area of low water potential.Importance!Osmosis is important as plants need it to absorb water and transport the water to the leaves of the plant. Animals need osmosis as it distributes nutrients and releases waste products.Effects of Osmosis/ Example:When osmosis occurs, water is moved from an area of high water potential to an area of low water potential. This means that when an object such as a potato cube is placed in a bottle of water, there is a higher concentration outside of the potato. This then causes the potato to grow in size as it absorbs the water to even out the water concentration.
