ももたろう ( Momotarou, the Peach Boy )

KANA むかし、 むかし、 ある ところ に おじいさん と おばあさん が いました。 おじいさん が 山（やま） へ 木（き） を きり に いけば、 おばあさん は 川（かわ） へ せんたく に でかけます。 「おじいさん、 はよう もどって きなされ。」 「おばあさん も き を つけて な。」 まい日（にち） やさしく いい あって でかけます。 ある日（ひ）、 おばあさん が 川 で せんたく を して いたら、 "つんぶらこ つんぶらこ" もも が ながれて きました。 ひろって たべたら、 なんとも おいしくて ほっぺた が おちそう。 おじいさん にも たべさせて あげたい と おもって、 「うまい もも こっちゃ こい。 にがい もも あっちゃ いけ。」 と いったら、 どんぶらこ どんぶらこ でっかい もも が ながれて きました。 おばあさん は よろこんで、 もも を いえ に もって かえりました。 ゆうがた おじいさん が 山 から もどって きました。 「おじいさん、 おじいさん、 うまい もも を ひろった で めしあがれ。」 おばあさん が きろう と したら、 もも が じゃくっ と われ、 "ほぎゃあ ほぎゃあ" 男（おとこ） の あかんぼう が とびだしました。 「こりゃあ たまげた。」 「なんちゅう げんき な あかんぼう だ。」 ふたり は あわてて おゆ を わかす やら きもの を さがす やら ふたり は この 子（こ） に ももたろう と いう 名（な）まえ を つけ、 それは それは だいじ に そだてました。 ももたろう は まんま を 一（いっ）ぱい たべたら 一ぱい だけ 二（に）はい たべたら 二はい だけ ずんずん 大（おお）きく なって、 たいへんな 力（ちから）もち に なりました。 なに を おしえて も すぐ おぼえ、 いえ の しごと から 山 の しごと まで てつだって くれました。 「こんな 子ども は めったに いる もん じゃない。」 おじいさん も おばあさん も いよいよ ももたろう を かわいがりました。

ENGLISH Long, long ago, in some place there was an old man and old woman. When the old man went to the mountain to cut trees, the old woman went out to the river to wash clothes. "Old man, come back quickly." "Old woman you also be careful, please." Each day they gently say to each other and go out. It happened one day while the old woman was washing clothes at the river, "tsunburako tsunburako a peach floated up. She picked it up and ate it and, it was so delicious as if to make her cheeks fall. She though she also wanted to make her husband eat one, and "Sweet peach come here. Bitter peach go away." she said, and "donburako donburako" a huge peach floated up. The old woman was happy and took the peach home. In the evening, the old man returned from the mountain. "Husband, husband, please eat the sweet peach I picked up." When the old woman tried to cut, the peach split "jyaku", "hogyaa hogyaa" a baby boy jumped out. "This is startling." "What a lively baby!" Together they hurriedly boiled water and looked for a kimono and so on. Together they gave the name Momotarou to this child, and brought him up with so much care. If Momotarou ate one cup of rice he grew one cup, if he ate two cups he grew two cups and quickly became large, and came to be very powerful. Whatever they teach him he learns quickly, and from house work to mountain work he helped them. "It is rare that there is a child like this." The old man and the old woman loved Momotarou more and more.
