THE DEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITION MODEL! (OR THE DTM)
A demographic transition model is a graph that shows population change over time!
To the left, you can see an example of a simple DTM. As you can see, there are five stages to the DTM:STAGE 1, which is known as the High StationarySTAGE 2, which is known as the Early ExpandingSTAGE 3, which is known as the Late ExpandingSTAGE 4, which is known as the Low StationarySTAGE 5, which is believed to be 'Declining'.
This is an example of a more complex DTM. Underneath, it explains why country go from stage to stage, and examples of countries that are currently in certain stages.
NOTE: The time that a stage lasts for varies! For example, the world as a whole stayed in high stationary for thousands of years, but went from early expanding to late expanding in a few hundred.
