The Basics: GED: General Education Development Five Subject Tests: Science, Math, Social Studies, Language Arts (Writing), and Language Arts (Reading) Scoring 200-800 on each individual test Each test requires a 410 minimum to past A new version of the test came out starting this year (2014)--it is now taken on a computer to ensure that adults have basic computer skills The GED evaluates critical career-and-college-ready skills and knowledge
The Cost: Cost will vary depending on state typical fees are $120 for the whole, $30 per test (Language arts test are combined)
What to Bring: ID with picture, birth date, and address pens and pencils a watch or small table clock the test fee
What NOT to bring: smart phone or cell phone ipod or other portable music device food and drink calculator (calculator is provided) textbooks, reference books or cheat sheets
Study Tips: Practice, practice, practice! Don't cram! Manage time well and study a bit every day stay calm, organized, and motivated For science, keep in mind that there will be more life science questions than earth & physical sciences For math, don't forget to review basic things you learned in the past. Even though they may seem easy, they are important! talk to your tutors and teachers if you are struggling with something
Test-Taking Tips: Get plenty of rest the night before eat a healthy breakfast read directions carefully be mindful of how much time is left (bring a watch!) don't be afraid to make an educated guess, there is no deduction for a wrong answer! trust your instincts mark the answer sheet carefully in the reading section, read over the questions before a passage so you know what to look for
