The nth termYou can find a term in a sequence using a position-to-term rule, if you know the terms position.Example Position in sequence      1         2         3       4          5            n Term      3   6 9      12 15 3n The term-to-term rule is 'add 3'.The position-to-term rule is 'multiply by 3'.The 20th term would be 20 x 3=60.The nth term of a sequence is the same as the position-to-term rule, written using algebra.In the example above, the position-to-term rule is 'multiply by 3'. The nth term would be 3n.
