PRINT FINISHING

CNC Cutting Versitile – can produce a wide variety of design withlittle set up Does not require the manufacture of specific dietooling Suited to small and medium scale production Not as fast as die cutting for large scale production

Die Cutting Printed Items can be cut to shape using a die cutting process Steel rules are bent to the correct shape to form a die. The die is mounted on a press The material is fed into the press and the finished items are cut

Varnishing Products are often given a glossy finish Improves appearance Can give greater resistance to moisture and wear Available in oil based and water based products The speed at which varnish dries can be increased with a UV light

Spot Varnishing Vanish is applied to specific points of the design Used to improve appearance and create interesting effects Textures can also be applied using this process

Lamination Can be done hot or cold Cold process involved self adhesive plastic Hot process heats the plastic until it sticks to the paper/card Used to give additional protection from wear or the weather/moisture
