Alkanes are ( saturated, unsaturated ) molecules that are ( carbohydrates, hydrocarbons ); they only consist of ( carbon, water ) and ( oxygen, hydrogen, hydrogen peroxide ) atoms. They can be formed as a product of the ( fractional distillation (fracking), photosynthesis, chromatography ) of ( olive, crude ) oil, or by reacting an alkene with ( one, two, three, four, ten ) hydrogen atoms. The first few alkanes - in ascending size order - are methane, ( but, mond, eth )ane, prop( ene, ane, er stuff, anol ), ( butane, threeane, troisiane, batane ), ( fivianne, pentane, mopane, morphine ), and so on. From the fifth one, the ( prefix, suffix ) will refer to the number of ( hydrogen, carbon ) atoms it has, with 5 being "pent-", 7 being "sept-", 10 being ( "dec-", "ten-", "par-" ), and so on. The suffix of any alkane will always be ( "-ene", "-ane", "-alkane" ).
