What is the absolute value of 8?

To start, let's go over the definition of absolute value.
Absolute Value- the number of spaces away from 0.

When the question is asking what the absolute value is of 8, just count how many numbers that is away from 0. 8 is 8 spaces away from 0, so 8 is our answer.

Easy, right? Well here is a more complex problem...

What is the absolute value of -4?
NEGATIVE 4????!!!! Do not panic! This is way easier than it looks! Just remember that the absolute value can NEVER be a negative number. It is ALWAYS a positive number (4, 5, 6, etc.) Just think to yourself- how many spaces is -4 away from 0? 1, 2, 3, 4! The absolute value of -4 is 4, because -4 is 4 spaces away from 0!
