1: Carbohydrates (Quiz)

To test for a reducing sugar:
1. Mix equal volumes of Benedict's reagent iodine solution universal indicator( Benedict's reagent, iodine solution, universal indicator ) and sample solution
2. Heat to at least 70 40 60 110( 70, 40, 60, 110 ) degrees C
3. If a reducing non-reducing simple( reducing, non-reducing, simple ) sugar is present, the solution will turn from blue orange purple red( blue, orange, purple, red ) to a red blue orange white( red, blue, orange, white ) precipitae

Starch is made of alpha beta( alpha, beta )-glucose molecules bonded together in two different ways, forming amylose amylase( amylose, amylase ) and amylopectin.
-Amylose is linear and unbranched branched( unbranched, branched ) with 1-4 3 2 5 6( 4, 3, 2, 5, 6 ) glycosidic bonds. It coils to form a helix cyclic molecule clump( helix, cyclic molecule, clump )
-Amylopectin has chains of 1-4 6 3( 4, 6, 3 ) glycosidic bonds. It also has branches which are joined to the 1-4 chain by 1-6 4( 6, 4 ) glycosidic bonds. Amylopectin is a branched linear( branched, linear ) molecule
