Formal Emails - Some general rules

An formal email follows the same rules as a formal letter.

You should start a formal email with a salutation.

Formal emails do not require the use of paragraphs.

Using words like TV, ASAP and FYI in formal emails is fine.

A formal email needs to be ended with your first name as a sign-off.

Proper sign-offs include 'Kinds regards' and Yours truly'.

If you do not put a subject on your email your email may not get read.

In formal emails, grammar and punctuation are less important than the actual message content.

It's important to start your email with a greeting like "What's up?" or "What's going on?"

Formal emails are used in business, college and university to communicate with your boss or instructor.
