Atoms are made up of protons and neutrons inside a nucleus and electrons moving around this nucleus.
Protons have positive electric charge.
Electrons have negative electric charge.
Neutrons have no charge.
Electrically charged objects attact or repel each other, depending on their charges.
Electrical current is when the electrons move from one object to another.
Some materials are insulators like plastic or rubber.
Other materials are conductors such as copper or silver.
Electrical current can be produced in an electrical circuit. It has the following parts:
a power source
wires
a switch
a resistor
Many inventions have relied on electrical power.
Thomas Edison started working selling his own newspaper.
By the age of 15 he was working as a teleghaph operator.
At the age of 22 he developed his first invention: a sotck ticker for the Exchange.
Later, he invented a telegraph machine, the phonograph for recording sounds, the carbon microphone and the bulb.
He worked in motion pictures cameras, car batteries and other inventions and gadgets.
