    The act of union was the act of britain getting rid of Irelands goverment so that ireland was now fully part of the bitish empire. This also meant that to be part of the irish goverment you had to travel to england.

    HOME RULE
    Home rule was the motion that Ireland should have their own parliment. People siad that they would remain part of Britain, but this parliment would be able to make decisions about Irish affairs.

    IRISH PARLIMENTARY PARTY
    Where the group of MP's that wanted home rule in ireland, they where also known as the home rule party. Their leader was called John Redmond.

    A NATIONLIST
    A nationlist is a person who wants Ireland to be an independent nation,they supported home rule. Most nationlists are catholics.

    A UNIONIST
    Is a person that wants to stay united with Britain,they wanted this for many reasons one being buisness. Most unionists are protestant.g

    The house of lords was not elected and was made up of rich noblemen and bishops. They had the power of veto which means they had the power to throw away any law they did not like that had been passed up to them by the house of commons.
    THE HOUSE OF LORDS HAD THE POWER OF VETO

    THE HOME RULE CRISIS OF 1912
    The first home rule bills where passed by the house of commons but where vetoed by the house of lords. The third  home rule bill in 1912 was passed by both hoses because, the house of lords power of veto was revoked. The house of lord still posponed home rule for two years.Ireland was supposed to get home rule in 1914 but it was posponed again due to world war 1.
