Description

This pretest was made to see what schema a student poses on the topic of volume (specifically with rectangular prisms) It is a way for me to see how I should differentiate my instruction in the classroom

Question 1

Question
Which one of these is a 3-dimensional geometric shape?

Question 2

Answer
  • A measure of how much matter is in an object
  • the measure of the amount of space inside of a solid figure
  • a fixed point of reference for the geometry of the surrounding space

Question 3

Question
x represents multiplication in this equation Equation for volume: V = l x w x h What do each of the letters represent in the picture?
Answer
  • Length
  • Width
  • Height

Question 4

Question
V= l x w x h when I plug in the numbers to the equation it would look like this V= 12 cm x 4 cm x 6 cm
Answer
  • True
  • False

Question 5

Question
When you multiply 12 cm x 4 cm x 6 cm you only multiply the numbers not the units
Answer
  • True
  • False

Question 6

Question
If I know that V = l x w x h than I can say that V = 4 cm x 3 cm x 12 cm which means V = 144 cm cubed If l know length x width = a rectangles area 3 cm x 4 cm = 12 cm squared From looking at the picture I can see that the product of 3 cm and 4 cm are the base of the rectangular prism If I multiply the new product 12 cm squared by the height of the rectangular prism which is 12 cm then I will come get 144 cm cubed. Does this mean that [blank_start]V = l x w x h is equal to V = b x h ?[blank_end] (b= base)
Answer
  • Is V = l x w x h equal to V = b x h? Why
